Goodstart Fortitude Valley recognises the local heritage and acknowledges and values Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as being the First Nations peoples of Australia. We believe it is essential for all Australians, to know and understand the histories, current realities and aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We value our connection with the Turrbal and Jagera peoples who are the Traditional Custodians of the Land upon which we play, work and learn. We strive to create a place where First Nations peoples’ culture and perspectives is respectfully embedded in all that we do and connect with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members to build mutually respectful, inclusive and culturally sensitive relationships. We aim to raise awareness and learn more about the histories and cultures of First Nations peoples and engaging our educators in learning, unlearning and relearning, and building relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ histories, rights and cultures. Together, we will work towards fostering a generation of Australians who value, respect and learn from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of being, and where we teach the true history of pre and post colonialised Australia.
