At Cockatoo Community Childcare, our vision for reconciliation is to make a conscious effort to acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' histories, perspectives, and cultures. We strive to build relationships between our service and the local First Nations people and community groups.
We aim to create a community where all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are valued, respected and treated equally and equitably. We believe all Australians should never forget the past and how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities were treated, and our role as educators is to be honest with these events, ensuring that future generations understand the negative impact this continues to have on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to ensure this mistreatment is not accepted in years to come.
We also understand that our role is to equip children with tools to respect one another, despite differences, acting with kindness towards others, showing respect and aspects of empathy. We are committed to creating a culturally safe environment for all children, a space where everyone has a sense of belonging, cultural safety, where all children can be seen and heard, free from bias.
