At Ouyen Preschool, we will continue to respectfully include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories into our learning. We recognise that reconciliation is fundamental to building strong respectful relationships between non-Indigenous people and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Our vision encompasses building respectful relationships with local First Nations peoples aand with the neighbouring peoples of the Wotjobaluk, Latji Latji, and Ngintait community. We place importance on respectfully embedding knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, heritages and perspectives within our daily practices and pedagogical approach. We have an ethical responsibility to maintain and further develop an inclusive and culturally safe environment where every child and their family feels that they belong, and where all educators show respect and are inclusive of each child's cultural beliefs and identities. Our Reconciliation Action Plan will support each educator to further their knowledge and cultural responsiveness regarding First Nations peoples. It underpins our commitment to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples to show respect, build relationships and promote reconciliation in the broader community.
