VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

At Dartmoor Children’s Centre we aim to ensure we continually work towards reconciliation between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians through the continual respect for the cultural backgrounds and languages of all children and families, including the cultural and linguistic diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We aim to provide a safe and welcoming environment for First Nations peoples that also provides respectful and responsive opportunities for all children and families to learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. We will work towards building and maintaining meaningful and mutual partnerships with the local Gunditjmara People. Reconciliation is actively recognised as an ongoing process and we will continue to reflect upon our practices and ensure everyone feels empowered to have a voice and contribute to decision making, with the importance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices and perspectives actively recognised. As a community we will provide opportunities for the truths of the past to be acknowledged as we, as a service, work towards supporting a cohesive future for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and all Australians. We will do this through open, honest, and respectful conversations between staff and families.
