Our vision for reconciliation is that WCC Children’s and Family Services recognises and respects the healing process of the Original Custodians who have experienced inequality, inequity and injustice on their own Land since colonisation and also recognises their continued strength and resilience. We will champion reconciliation in collaboration with the First Nations peoples of the Marr Nation to form a sense of unity, respect and belonging for all.
We aim to ensure that:
All children and families feel welcomed and included, especially First Nations children and families. Education occurs at all levels, promoting knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures, histories and contributions. We invite and support genuine and respectful reciprocal relationships between First Nation peoples and non-Indigenous Australians in the community and within our centre. First Nations families and staff are empowered to have a voice and feel culturally safe to contribute to decision-making that affects them. We adhere to child-safe standards and will embed a focus on cultural safety, equity and wellbeing within our everyday practice. We remain guided by the Elders of the Marr Nation to ensure local First Nations people’s perspectives are evident and respected in the learning spaces.
