VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

At Surrey Hills Day Care Centre, we recognise the significance and diversity of cultures and histories of the country’s First Peoples and appreciate the way in which their heritages have shaped Australian cultures and shared values.

We acknowledge the colonial events of the past and continued present that impact justice, equality, equity and a society free from racism for First Nations peoples. We stand with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, value their culture and contributions and walk towards reconciliation together.

We envisage the future to be built on strong, equal, equitable and culturally respectful relationships between our broader community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. We acknowledge that the thriving education of children has been occurring in these Lands for thousands of years, we recognise the role western education has had as a tool of colonisation in the past, and that early education is a pathway to a reconciled nation. Our service will strive to incorporate First Nations histories, cultures, and perspectives as a continuous part of early learning environments to ensure that all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and non-Indigenous children have access to all important historical aspects of Australia's shared identity. We will respectfully build relationships with Elders and their community and value advise and knowledge they choose to share.

We strive to promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identities and contributions with respect, open hearts and inclusive minds. We are committed to Reconciliation as well as increasing awareness and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples cultures and histories.
