At Surrey Hills Day Care Centre, we recognise the significance and diversity of the cultures and histories of the First Nation peoples of Australia and acknowledge how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and contributions have shaped Australian cultures and shared values.
We acknowledge the colonial events of the past and continued present that impacts justice, equality, equity and a society free from racism for First Nations peoples. We continue to stand with and learn from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples so we might continue to walk towards reconciliation together.
We envisage a reconciled future that is built on strong, equal, equitable and culturally respectful relationships between our broader community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in our community.
We acknowledge that the thriving education of children has been occurring in these Lands for thousands of years, we recognise the role western education has had as a tool of colonisation in the past, and that early education is a pathway to a reconciled nation. Our service will continue to meaningfully embed First Nations peoples, histories, cultures, and perspectives as a continuous part of our learning environments to ensure that everyone, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and non-Indigenous children have access to all important historical aspects of Australia's shared identity. We will respectfully build relationships with Elders and the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and value their advice and knowledge that they choose to share.
