Central to our kindergarten’s vision is recognising and respecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as being the First Nations People of Australia and acknowledging the Wurundjeri people as Traditional Custodians of the Land where we meet, connect with the local community and deliver our kindergarten program. As a Christian kindergarten “Care, Commitment and Connection” are the underlying values reflected in our philosophy. We recognise the dispossession, intergenerational trauma and discrimination experienced by all First Nations Peoples and is a priority for Camberwell Baptist Church Kindergarten. Our heart is for humanity to be deeply reconciled to each other and live in harmony. Our vision is to make reconciliation visible in our kindergarten by promote cultural understanding (competence/humility) in our staff team and our kinder community and to consider how we can respectfully embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in our program. We aim to build our community knowledge of First Nations People histories, cultures, and contemporary issues. Seeking to make connections with the First Nations Peoples will be a priority in our next step towards reconciliation.
