Acacia Children's Centre Richmond is committed to continuing our journey towards reconciliation and demonstrating leadership in strengthening authentic and respectful implementation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ perspectives in Early Childhood Education.
We acknowledge that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of this country are connected to the oldest surviving cultures in existence and are the First Nations peoples of Lands across Australia.
It is our responsibility as educators to ensure that children learn about honest histories, current perspectives and practices that respectfully reflect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, languages and perspectives, both past and present.
We respect the diverse cultures of all children and families. We will continue to promote inclusivity through creating awareness of bias and stereotypes; helping children develop the language to describe and understand bias, racism and prejudice; and providing them with the tools and power to respond appropriately.
We acknowledge that our educators, children, family, and community members are all at different stages of developing knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and contributions yet we all walk this journey together as we grow in building a strong, resilient community that advocates for acknowledgment, reconciliation, and recognition and we support positive and sustainable changes in attitudes and practices.
Acacia Children's Service Richmond will show ongoing commitment to this vision through the continued development, reflection and implementation of our Reconciliation Action Plan, which adopts practical strategies to reduce tokenism or offensiveness and to embrace authenticity, social justice, and equity through embedded daily pedagogical practices.
