Our vision for reconciliation at Warrandyte Childcare and Preschool Centre is the realisation of a united Australia that respectfully values and celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures and histories at the core of its’ shared national identity. Reconciliation for all is a life-long journey of learning, un-learning and relearning. It is an understanding and acknowledgement of the hard truths of Australia’s past and present, and actively promoting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’ self-determination and significant cultures and contributions.
To achieve this, our reconciliation journey ahead involves building a culturally responsive centre with strong connections with the Wurundjeri People on whose Land we teach, learn and play. It includes respectfully embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and ways of knowing into our curriculum, inclusive of cultures and languages, nurturing our children to be champions of reconciliation, and nuturing the growth of the cultural responsiveness of our staff. Along with respectfully and consistently introducing and providing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in everyday curriculum planning.
