Parkwood Green Preschool acknowledges and values the cultural histories, heritages, and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We believe in the process of reconciliation and acknowledge the necessity to work collaboratively and respectfully with between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and all Australians. Reconciliation should have a greater focus on the relationship between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians that addresses the past prejudices, discrimination, and racism. We support the constitutional recognition of Australia’s First Peoples. Our vision for reconciliation is that we live in an Australian society that values and recognises Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ culture and heritage as a proud part of a shared national identity. Parkwood Green Preschool supports the national reconciliation movement and is committed to fostering a higher level of knowledge and pride in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ histories, cultures, and contributions. Parkwood Green Preschool believes strongly in raising awareness and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, history, and culture and that through ongoing learning and education, we will deepen our connections with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Through working together and including children from a young age we can collectively build our understanding for a better reconciled future based on stronger relationships between all Australians. Parkwood Green Preschool is contributing to an Australia where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff, children, and families feel a sense of belonging in our service and a strong connection with the community and country. A place where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s cultural identity is acknowledged respected and deepened.
