VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

At Werribee West Family Centre Kindergarten, we are dedicated to fostering a strong sense of belonging for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families and all children and families through genuine, respectful relationships and culturally safe practices. Reconciliation, to us, means walking together as alliesAboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australianstowards a future grounded in truth, empathy, and justice. Its about listening deeply, acknowledging the true histories of Australia, and building meaningful connections with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We know that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are the First Peoples of this land, with histories stretching back over 65,000 years. We acknowledge the richness of their Culturesstorytelling, language, deep connections to Country, and kinship systemsand honour their continuing contributions. We also acknowledge the ongoing impact of colonisation, including systemic racism, health inequities, land dispossession, and intergenerational trauma. At our kindergarten, reconciliation is not a one-off act but a lived, evolving commitment.  We are shaping how children view themselves, each other, and the world around them. By respectfully embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples perspectives throughout our curriculum and environment, we nurture children's respect for Country, First Nations peoples cultures, and perspectives from the earliest years.
