Our vision for reconciliation is a Preschool that nurtures and respects a community of learners with strong connections to family, community, culture and place. We cherish that we learn from each other. Valla Community Preschool acknowledges that the children and families play and learn on Gumbaynggirr Country. We acknowledge and pay respect to the Gumbaynggirr people as the First Peoples of this Land on which we live, learn and play. We thank them for caring for the lands and waterways and respect the generous sharing of knowledge and stories. We also recognise that early education is a pathway to a reconciled nation. We must walk alongside each other to create a culturally safe environment of historical acceptance, meaningful change and positive outcomes with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and all Australians. We acknowledge that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have been disconnected to their cultures and Lands due to colonisation and respect the strength and resilience of the Gumbaynggirr people and all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Educators promote an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples cultures and histories and the impacts of colonisation through our respectful and meaningful programs, educational spaces and pedagogies. We recognise the important role that children, families and educators play in the reconciliation journey as future leaders, Elders and carers for Country. We also recognise that early education is a pathway to a reconciled nation. We must walk alongside each other to create a culturally safe environment of historical acceptance, meaningful change and positive outcomes with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and all Australians.
