VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

Our vision is to create a preschool that nurtures and values a community of learners and builds our connection with family, community, culture and place. We cherish that we learn from each other.

Valla Community Preschool acknowledges that our children and families play and learn on Gumbaynggirr Country. We acknowledge and pay respect to the Gumbaynggirr people as the First Peoples of this Land that we live, learn and play on. We thank them for caring for the land and the waterways and value the sharing of their knowledge and stories as they choose. We acknowledge the importance of continued connection to culture and Country for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This is embedded and reflected in the values of the Preschool as Educators promote an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures which contributes to the richness of our program and creates educational spaces and pedagogies that are meaningful, respectful and empowering.

We recognise the important role that children, families and educators play in the reconciliation journey as future leaders, Elders and carers for Country. We also recognise that early education is a pathway to a reconciled nation. We must walk alongside each other to create a culturally safe environment of historical acceptance, meaningful change and positive outcomes with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and all Australians.
