Reconciliation, in our early learning community, is an ongoing journey of building respectful, meaningful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider Australian community.
It is grounded in truth-telling, deep listening, shared learning, reflective practice and mutual respect. We recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the land (Kamilaroi Land) on which we learn and play, and we honour their connection to land, waters, culture, community and Country.
We acknowledge that early childhood education plays a vital role in shaping childrens understanding of equity, equality, respect and belonging.
Guided by the principles of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), we are committed to embedding reconciliation into our everyday practice.
We will:
Create culturally safe and inclusive environments where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and community members feel respected, valued and heard.
Foster childrens sense of identity and belonging by celebrating the culture and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Engage in ongoing reflection and professional learning to strengthen our cultural competence and ensure respectful, inclusive language and practices.
Build authentic, reciprocal relationships with our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community to support shared learning and collaboration.
Through positive relationships, intentional teaching, and meaningful experiences, we aim to nurture children who grow to be compassionate, informed and active contributors to a more just and reconciled Australia.
Our vision is to embed reconciliation not as a single initiative, but as a lived commitment reflected in our curriculum, partnerships, policies and daily interactions.
