At Goodstart New Lambton, our vision is for our children to gain a deeper understanding of, and respect for, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures. By teaching children to acknowledge and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories we hope this encourages future respect for others and a respect for diverse identities and perspectives.
We continue to strengthen our knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, including through connections with the Awabakal people on whose Land we reside. We will use this knowledge to support and implement the development of the children’s understanding of, and respectful learning about, the histories of Australia. We will also gain knowledge, where appropriate and welcome, through respectful connections with our families and team members who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. We strive to have an increased presence of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples visit our service and influence pedagogy, leading to a deeper understanding of and embedding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives within our service, through the development of reciprocal relationships
