VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

At Cherry Tree Kindergarten, we acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples as the First Peoples of Australia and respect their cultural identities, traditions, beliefs and heritages. We acknowledge Australia's shared past and believe that through the creation of respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, we can move towards a unified Australia. Likewise, we strive for all people, including Australia's First Peoples, to feel safe, comfortable and respected within our Kindy and to have equal and equitable opportunities to participate in quality early childhood education.

Our vision is for a future where all Australians develop and maintain positive and respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, where we work alongside community Elders in respectfully listening to and sharing knowledge, histories and experiences, all the while improving and strengthening these crucial relationships.

Through our work with non-Indigenous educators, children and their families, we will provide opportunities to support them to actively value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, histories and continuing contributions, as we believe these are intrinsic to our national identity. With the creation of these positive links, Cherry Tree Kindergarten is helping to contribute to a community which values and celebrates the importance of Elders, and Country.

Furthermore, through respectful engagements with our local communities we can promote a positive understanding of contemporary First Peoples identities whilst paying our respects to Elders past, present, emerging and future.

We believe it is important to actively listen to children's voices in our reconciliation journey. The children of Cherry Tree are continually learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. They believe that all Australians can live together in harmony. They envision a world where everyone is nice to each other, and no one is angry; a world where everyone is friends.
