At First Steps Learning Academy we have a strong belief in reconciliation and philosophy of respecting the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous communities that shape our reconciliation journey. Our education program provides equal and equitable opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous children. We are committed to supporting children to learn about, and respect, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, perspectives, and histories. Our vision is guided by Reconciliation Australia’s five dimensions as we aim to understand, respect, and value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures. We want to ensure we have a strong two-way relationship between our centre and the local First Nations communities where our learning community values, respects, understands, and recognises Australia’s First Nations people’s cultures, heritages, and contributions. We aim to promote and ensure the acceptance of our Nation’s true histories through thoughtful curriculums as we work to ensure our children understand the wrongs of the past.
