VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

Our vision for reconciliation at Northern Beaches Council Children’s Services is to acknowledge and celebrate the rich diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures and histories.  We recognise past injustices and the impacts on First Nations peoples’, and we are committed to working together for a reconciled future.

Our services integrate cultural responsiveness across all aspects of the curriculum to make a difference in the educational outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children as well as non-Indigenous children and educators.

Our practice is informed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, languages, values, pedagogies and histories, and provide curriculum that are culturally safe, culturally rich, proud and just. We will embed, celebrate and respect the stories and living cultures and histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as part of our national story.

We see children as informed citizens and active participants on our reconciliation journey.  Their voices are central to our vision.  Through our work with children, families, and the community we recognise the role we play in shaping current and future generations and the power that our words and actions have on creating a better future and a more just Australia for all.

Whether we come from this Country or not, we all must learn from the First Peoples of this Land. Their knowledge and their deep connection to this Land is a source of wealth that must be acknowledged, valued and passed on.
