Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians. Our vision for reconciliation at Bacchus Marsh Grammar is our collective commitment to embrace Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, and histories.
At our school, reconciliation is a learning journey being guided by First Nations voices and perspectives and we actively seek ways to encourage broader engagement with and stronger relationships between the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population and the wider community. We are committed to creating and maintaining a culturally safe teaching and learning environment, especially for First Nations students and staff where all can feel proud and free to express their identity. We are committed to institutional integrity which creates equitable educational opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and all students which is underpinned by our ethos of Education for Life.
We commit to overcoming challenges that may arise whilst confronting prejudices and recognising the true history of Australia and its impacts on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We will show kindness and understanding when facing the discomfort of truth telling and will have the courage to make change and step forward on the path to reconciliation together.
Through the lived experience of the Bacchus Marsh Grammar values, all members of the community will strive for an authentic understanding of reconciliation and through our actions and leadership contribute to an Australian identity based on mutual respect and trust.
