Siena College is steeped in the Catholic and Dominican tradition of being a truth-seeking, justice-practicing community. We pledge to provide an innovative, inclusive and robust learning environment for all students and staff that educates the whole person. We strive to respond critically and truthfully to the imbalances of our historical context and privilege due to colonisation and past government policies and the unjust, unequal and inequitable experiences for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of the past and today. We are aware of the urgent necessity to retell truths and share experiences to help create a new way forward in reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples; the First Peoples of this Land. Through our Reconciliation Action Plan, we seek opportunities to form and nurture reciprocal partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and organisations. We will actively listen and respectfully learn from the knowledges of the First Peoples of this Land, in a spirit of learning, reconciliation and redress. We understand we have much to learn, and this is an opportunity to build upon our relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The Uluru Statement from the Heart has been inviting us to walk with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples since 2017 in a movement of hope and reconciliation towards a better future. Our hearts and minds are ready for this journey.
