Our vision for reconciliation at Strathmore North Primary School is to foster a culture across our community that respects and acknowledges the diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures. We believe reconciliation is an ongoing journey of learning, reflection, and action embedded in our teaching, leadership, and school culture. In our educational context, reconciliation means strengthening our understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples histories, cultures, and perspectives through curriculum, student voice, and everyday practice, while acknowledging the impacts of colonisation and past and present injustices. Through learning, un-learning, and re-learning, we are committed to building respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, challenging racism, and fostering empathy, inclusion, and mutual respect across our school community. At the heart of this vision is the ongoing implementation of our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), which reflects our responsibility as a school to take meaningful and sustained action towards reconciliation, carried out in collaboration with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and our entire school community. Our RAP maintains a focus on celebrating and acknowledging the rich and diverse cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, while advocating for equity and equality. Through curriculum planning, leadership support, community collaboration, and visible practices, we prioritise maintaining a culturally safe and inclusive environment where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples histories, cultures, and rights are recognised as a valued and essential part of our shared identity, and where all members of our community experience belonging, respect, and unity.
