Reconciliation means acknowledging the past and playing a role in educating students and ourselves about injustices in the events that have led to Australia's First People being suppressed and the intergenerational trauma that they have experienced carries into today. Within this, we recognise the strength and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Reconciliation, to us, means striving to create an inclusive and culturally rich learning environment where all members of the school community can learn from both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and non-Indigenous people on the continued path to reconciliation. Working on reconciliation within our school means building meaningful relationships with First Nations Elders and community leaders to educate and support all staff, teachers, families and the wider community about Australia's First Peoples’ histories and cultures.
A reconciled Australia is one that is not divided on issues regarding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples because everyone recognises that we need to acknowledge and respect First Nations peoples. A reconciled Australia looks like a country that is moving forward and acknowledging and teaching about Australia's true history. A reconciled Australia feels united, inclusive, celebrated, and educated, supporting future generations to achieve great things.
Our sphere of influence is all Australians are working together towards the same goal of becoming a reconciled Australia. We will respectfully include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives throughout our syllabus, around the school and within the community.
