St Ignatius College, Riverview we aspire to be a community grounded in respect for Cammeraygal Country, where everyone across our school communities has opportunities to learn about the Land on which we learn and our school is located on, and the shared and true history it holds. Our vision for reconciliation is to be a school that has a deep understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and the worlds oldest continuing living cultures. This will be demonstrated by striving for all staff, students and families to value the strength, resilience and richness of First Nations peoples, cultures and their enduring connections to lands, waterways and skies. Through honest, appropriate and culturally safe truth telling, we commit to acknowledging the past with courage. By understanding historical injustices and their ongoing impacts, we strive to foster empathy and strengthen our responsibility to ensure such harms never recur. We respect First Nations Cultural and Intellectual Property, recognising that knowledge, stories, language, symbols and cultural expressions are held and governed by First Nations peoples and Traditional Custodians. We commit to engaging respectfully and ethically in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and community, and with care. We believe reconciliation must be lived, not simply taught. We value meaningful opportunities to learn from Traditional Custodians about how connections with Country are are physical, relational and experiential, in all domains. Guided by First Nations people and their wisdom, we recognise that connection to Land, community and self is essential to belonging and wellbeing. As a Jesuit Catholic school, for us, reconciliation is grounded in Gospel values of justice, service and compassion. We recognise our place and responsibility for all in our community to learn from Traditional Custodians about what it means to care for Country. We commit ourselves to truthtelling, learning our shared histories, and acting with respect and understanding. We acknowledge the difference between equality and equity and commit to being culturally responsive , knowing that, through reconciliation in education can create hope to strengthen relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as individuals and communities and all Australians. Through our actions, relationships with First Nations people and communities our commitment towards reconciliation, it is lived each day.
