Search: reconciliation in education webinar

Students use ABC Open Me and Mine short films, to learn about the relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and think about how such relationships are relevant to them.

Using Supply Nation’s Indigenous Business Direct search tool, students work to locate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander owned businesses relevant to their school’s RAP or general business.

In this activity, students engage with The Who We Are: Brave New Clan short film that explores the story and experiences of James Saunders, twenty-eight-year-old business owner who grew up in south-east Queensland and now lives in Sydney.

Children take an excursion or have visitors to learn the historical and cultural significance of Country and important sites in their local area.

Through the lyrics of ‘From little things big things grow’, children reflect on both socio-economic injustices, and opportunities, faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and businesses.

Children build a model of their local area with blocks and mark important Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander places.

Educators will hold regular and structured ‘sharing circle’ time for children to develop an early understanding of the importance of including others, sharing, friendship and harmony.
