RECONCILIATION IN EDUCATION: GUIDE FOR PARENTS AND CARERS

This guide is for parents and caregivers of children in early learning, primary, secondary or home school environments.

Parents, carers and family are children’s first and most important teachers and play an essential role in driving reconciliation in the home and through education.

First steps for parents and carers can include:

  • Be a lifelong learner and continue learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and histories
  • Contribute to reconciliation initiatives and actions at your child’s school and your local community.
  • Find out if your child's school or service has a reconciliation action plan (RAP) and be represented on the RAP working group

It is a guide only and should be considered with the wider resources available on the Narragunnawali platform, along with the advice from local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities.
