Lake Bolac and District Kindergarten

VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

At Lake Bolac and District Kindergarten our vision is to encourage a respectful partnership with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. This is intended to be done through community groups and organizations and to encourage participation in the Lake Bolac Eel Festival held annually. Our goal being to further our knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures as well as the kindergarten community including children, educators and families. This will in turn allow us to represent the view and the hopes of all of the children to support them to grow up to be strong, proud and resilient. Our objective is to foster respect, understanding and admiration for the Traditional Owners of the Djabwurrung Land in Western Victoria.

In our curriculum we will include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander viewpoints within the Kindergarten including the conversations we engage in. We will acknowledge the national days of celebration and will endeavour to involve our Kindergarten children and community in these acknowledgements. Our families will be encouraged to participate in the yearly Eel Festival and we will ensure that any families from Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander cultures know that we are a welcoming place which is both respectful and inclusive.
