Norman Park Community Kindergarten

Norman Park Community Kindergarten values Australia's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. We believe fostering children's understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures, and challenging biases, can positively impact on children's future attitudes towards cultural diversity.

To fulfil our vision of reconciliation, our educators believe the cultures and histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples should be respectfully embedded into our everyday practices and in the children's learning experiences. We believe in enriching the learning program to meaningfully include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge and histories through encouraging educators to reflect on their own cultural competence and gain new knowledge of diverse cultural practices and world views. Through our Nature Kindergarten program, we are committed to continuing to support the children to connect to the Jagera Land on which we meet to learn and play. In turn, we can begin to recognise and build respect for the care and wisdom of the Jagera people and how this relates to our Kindy and the Land, environment, wildlife, plants and people.

Educators will continue to work with members of our local Jagera community to ensure we facilitate the program in a culturally aware manner that reflects and supports the culture and histories of the Jagera peoples past, present and emerging.
