Open Arms' vision towards reconciliation is one that focuses on educating the current and future generation of Australians about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories and perspectives.
We see a future where all Australians acknowledge the Elders past and present, for the knowledge they hold. We will endeavour to appropriately embed our newfound knowledge into our centre to ensure that all staff and children have a sense of belonging and strong connection to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
We acknowledge the recent colonial history of Australia and the inequitable ways in which the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have been treated. By acknowledging this history we also aim to move forward, creating an inclusive and collaborative environment that builds a reconciled community of practice.
Through committing to forming stronger connections with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community; Elders; inclusion and training agencies; schools and families, our children will be recognised and nurtured as the creators, thinkers and doers of today and tomorrow.
