VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

KU Tree House expresses our utmost respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as holders of invaluable cultural and historical knowledge, customs and practices.

Our vision for reconciliation involves building collaborative partnerships and strengthening environmental awareness, as we foster a sense of mutual respect among all members of the community. We will continue this journey by raising awareness in our centre.

We aim to encourage all the educators, children and families to learn more about and reflect on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and practices to encourage a shared sense of understanding. We aim not only to learn from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, but also to establish meaningful and reciprocal relationships. Moreover, we aim to establish environmental awareness, which reinforces the importance of respect for the land, and the interdependence of all living things.

Our vision was inspired by the Coolamon, or a traditional carrying vessel used to contain infants, food and utensils (Wheeler, 2012). This is representative of our role, as an early education service, to collect and fulfill a range of learning opportunities and experiences as we strive to give our children the best start in life. As we collectively continue our journey towards reconciliation, we hope to serve as a strong vessel for a community of learners that recognises, values and nurtures the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island peoples and cultures.
