In My Blood It Runs (Secondary)

overview

In My Blood It Runs: History. Learning. Love. Resistance is the story of Dujuan Hoosan, a 10-year-old Arrernte and Garawa boy. Based on the award-winning 2019 documentary film, this book was adapted by Dujuan and his two nannas Margaret Anderson and Carol Turner and illustrated by Blak Douglas.

In My Blood It Runs draws attention to a central theme of identity, especially cultural identity. Throughout this curriculum resource, students connect to the text and explore identity on a deep level and come to understand that cultural identity is something all people have, regardless of background. This curriculum resource is aimed towards those who educate or read with young people aged 8 – 16.

The In My Blood It Runs - Teacher’s notes and learning sequence resource was developed by the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS), Reconciliation Australia’s Narragunnawali team, and Keren Shlezinger.
