This curriculum resource is based on an SBS Learn resource, developed in partnership with Reconciliation Australia. It is shaped around six short clips from the documentary film We don’t need a map. The film explores Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander understandings of, and relationships to, the Southern Cross constellation, and asks questions about where the Southern Cross sits in the wider Australian psyche. Imbued with leading Aboriginal film-maker Warwick Thornton’s cavalier spirit, We don’t need a map provides a fun and thought-provoking ride through Australia’s cultural and political landscape.
