St Brendan's Catholic Primary School

VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

St. Brendan's vision for reconciliation is for all students to understand and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures at a local and national level. St. Brendan's recognises Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as First Australians and acknowledges past injustices that continue to give rise to present inequalities and inequities. We also recognise that reconciliation is a spiritual process which involves justice, recognition and healing. It is about helping all Australians to move forward with a better understanding of the past and how the past affects the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians today.

Our Core Values of Belonging, Diversity, Excellence and Relationships underpin our education and social practices as we address the concepts central to what reconciliation means at St. Brendan's School. We aim to provide an environment and supportive structures that empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, and encourages all students to acknowledge the continuing richness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and heritage.

We will achieve our vision for reconciliation through developing relationships with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, actively valuing and acknowledging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories, respectfully participating in and promoting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and meaningfully integrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives across all learning areas and in cross-curricular units of work.
