At Sagewood Early Learning, Canning Vale, reconciliation means fostering a service community that advocates for unity and respect and strengthens relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and non-Indigenous people. We believe reconciliation is an ongoing journey of learning, unlearning and relearning. We will continue to develop our understanding of reconciliation and take meaningful action in how we teach and learn that supports positive change in how we engage with diverse Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and perspectives
Our vision for reconciliation is for educators, children and families to continuously deepen our understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' culture, histories.. To do this, we will continue to build respectful relationships with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
As part of our reconciliation commitment, we will continue to work alongside Traditional Custodians to learn how to respectfully include Noongar language and deepen our understanding of Noongar culture, as a way of meaningfully embedding Aboriginal perspectives into our everyday practices and learning environments. We recognise the importance of learning about the language, stories, and knowledge of the Noongar people. Through these relationships and ongoing professional learning and reflection, we remain open to relearning about how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the local community understand how language is used to support identity, connection, and belonging.
At Sagewood Canningvale, , we will continue to invite educators, children, and families to be part of our reconciliation journey, working in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and invite others across local education communities to do the same.
