We at Explorers Early Learning Mornington are committed to reconciliation and to increasing awarness and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures.
We acknowledge and respect the Traditional Owners of the Land on which our centre is built. We envision a future where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are actively recognised and celebrated as being the First Nations peoples of Australia. We wish to learn about First Nations peoples’ stories, wisdom, traditions and cultures from the past and present and respectfully share this knowledge with our Explorers community.
We aim to achieve this through our inclusive early childhood programs, environments, curriculum and daily interactions with our children, educators and families.
We will be open to new ideas and concepts and encourage critical reflection of our own teaching practices.
We will seek advice and knowledge from Elders and members of the community who choose to share their knowledge and teach us about their cultural heritages, customs, traditional ways and continuing contributions. We will also research and intentionally seek out answers to our questions.
We will embrace all concepts and ideas about reconciliation, and allAboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and perspectives, with respect, open hearts and inclusive minds.
We believe a better understanding of, and respect for, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures develops an enriched appreciation of Australia's cultural heritage and can lead to reconciliation. This is essential to the maturity of Australia as a nation and fundamental to the development of Australian identity.
