VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

We believe reconciliation begins at a young age, during which children develop strong ideas about diversity. We believe that it is everyone’s responsibility to make meaningful change for past, present and future Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.  With this in mind, we are committed to promoting awareness for meaningful change and growth for our future in this nation; a future of acknowledgement, and respect,  wherein Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures, traditions and continuing contributions are embraced and a united community is encouraged.  We understand that the steps we take today can make a meaningful change for future generations. Our vision of reconciliation is based and measured on the five dimensions: historical acceptance; race relations; equality and equity; institutional integrity and unity. We accept and will actively advocate for the unique rights that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people hold to ensure that there is a shared respect for the continuation of First Nations cultures into the future. We understand that, in order to build a better future, we need to acknowledge the past and to continue encouraging historical acceptance to ensure that the wrongs of the past are never repeated. We will continue embracing diversity to help develop positive and accepting attitudes among future generations and to help them gain a better understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives. We will continue celebrating a wider range of opportunities with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in our OSHC services to support institutional integrity and create meaningful learning opportunities for all children, staff, families and the wider community about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives. We will continue celebrating unity by establishing and building relationships with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, engaging and learning about First Nations’ cultures and connection to Country.
