Our vision for reconciliation is an Australia that embraces unity between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other Australians, and a national culture that represents equality, equity, historical acceptance of our shared history and removal of negative race relations. Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Our vision for a reconciled Australia is a place where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and histories are valued and respected across all areas of society.
Where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and all children have equal and equitable opportunities to exercise choices about the way in which they lead meaningful, healthy lives, including those choices that sustain their cultures.
Our commitment mirrors our values of respect for diversity, inclusion and advocating for the rights of all children. We will ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives are embedded throughout our service, so respectfully and deeply in the future that this is integrated in our being, belonging and becoming.
In support of sustainable and meaningful reconciliation The Discovery Garden welcomes all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families to our service and remains committed to sourcing and attending opportunities to increase staff and community awareness of the longstanding and continuing contributions of Australia’s First Nations peoples. By establishing a better understanding and respect of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures, we continue to develop an enriched appreciation of Australia's cultural heritage and move towards a more reconciled nation.
In addition to our vision, we have now incorporated reconciliation as one of our key values in our Centre Philosophy.
