Niina Marni!
At St Joseph’s Catholic School, we are continuing to plan, prioritise and develop our initiatives, (beyond what we are currently practising in the classroom & around the school) to actively take ‘action’ and work towards a whole-school commitment of Reconciliation through a RAP statement- (Reconciliation Action Plan) We are a proud Josephite school that consistently values & respectfully acknowledges the land on which we learn and celebrate as Kaurna land; the traditional country of the Kaurna people of the Adelaide Plains. In doing so, we continue to raise students’ awareness that the Kaurna 'miyurna' people were the first inhabitants of the Adelaide area.
Whilst we acknowledge that ‘reconciliation’ means different things to different people, collectively, and from a place of spiritual faith and Gospel teachings, it means ‘healing and restoration’ and a ‘change of heart,’ this is undoubtedly and justly, a significant place to begin when we reflect on the knowledge and understanding of ‘reconciliation’ from a First Nations perspective.
As a Josephite school we are committed to continuing St Mary MacKillop’s vision of educating our young people to acknowledge the true stories of Australia’s First Nations: their histories, cultures and contributions to society. We understand the importance of reconciliation in building a just society where ‘In All Things Love' is witnessed and experienced by all and where strong relationships within and around our community are built on trust, respect and understanding.
We know and recognise that our journey to create, achieve and celebrate a RAP movement at St Joseph’s Catholic School, Hindmarsh, is an evolving and multi-dimensional process that will require staff commitment, continuous positive action and an ongoing and honest conversation among those who work and are involved in our school community, built on understanding, respect, equality and inclusion of Australians.
Ngaityalya (Kaurna for thank you)
