At The Learning Sanctuary Yeronga, reconciliation is an important part of our centre and our wider community. We embrace reconciliation by providing equal and equitable opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and all students by celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures and their ongoing contributions to Australia.
As educators we believe that unity, acceptance and connection are vital to our education practice and teaching about the diverse Aboriginal and Torres Strait perspectives and building and maintaining respectful dialogue and respectful relationships, traditions, beliefs across our community.
Throughout our learning environments we will continue to create a sense of belonging, for everyone, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and community. We will respectfully implement appropriate practices and celebrate cultural heritages to develop children’s understanding and acknowledging the impacts of colonial injustices and taking accountability to respect the Land we live on.
We will continue to respectfully incorporate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures and perspectives into our everyday routines and interactions with all children.
Our aim is to create equal and equitable opportunities, make amends for past wrongs and bring people together to build mutual trust, respectful relationships, and move forward to develop unity across our service.
Our vision is to have every educator, child, family member across the centre meaningfully engaging with reconciliation by forming their own understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives. We will continue to ensure these are fused into our daily rituals in non-tokenistic ways.
