Vaucluse Out of School Care

Here at Vaucluse Out of School Care (VOOSC) we are committed to the pursuit of reconciliation. We will strive to ensure that our students understand the significance of reconciliation and Australia's shortcomings in that department, we believe that by educating our students of the history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia, and celebrating their rich cultures, we can do our part in taking steps towards reconciliation and imbuing a sense of respect within our students, staff and wider community. In order to achieve these goals, VOOSC will use a specially tailored learning resource which not only provides context about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, but also provides information about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who live in the Watsons Bay and Vaucluse area (the Gadigal and Bidjigal Clans) and the significance of the area as a whale lookout, which was the totem animal. The resource also makes mention of the shell middens which signify proof of advanced civilisation in the area.

VOOSC has always strived to be a welcoming environment for all students, which is free from bullying, alienation, and discrimination. Our service has always been about inclusion and we have, and will continue to, embody the spirit of reconciliation in our day to day practices. In order to continue to do this we will constantly update our activities and learning resources to ensure a focus on reconciliation. Finally, VOOSC will endeavour to ensure that students, community members, and staff have an inclusive attitude, and open mindedness towards reconciliation and continue to respectfully acknowledge the importance of our actions and ongoing practices towards this goal.
