We at Explorers Early Learning Brighton East are committed to reconciliation as well as to increasing awareness and knowledge of Aboriginal and The Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures. We acknowledge and respect the Traditional Owners of the Land on which our centre is built and we envision a future where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are actively recognised and celebrated as the First Nations peoples of Lands across Australia. We will continue to learn about First Nations peoples’ stories, wisdom, traditions, and cultures from the past and present and to respectfully share such knowledge and stories with our Explorers community. We are committed to achieving our vision for reconciliation through our inclusive early childhood programs, environments, curriculum, and daily interactions with our children, educators, and families. We will remain open and responsive to new ideas and concepts and encourage critical reflection of our own teaching practices. We will actively listen to the advice and knowledge from Elders and community members who choose to share their knowledge and teach us about their cultural heritages, customs, traditional ways and continuing contributions. We will also research and intentionally seek out answers to our questions about reconciliation. We will embrace all concepts and ideas about reconciliation and embrace Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and perspectives with respect, open hearts and inclusive minds. We believe that a better understanding of, and respect for, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures develops an enriched appreciation of Australia’s cultural heritage and can lead to reconciliation. This is essential to the maturity of Australia as a nation and fundamental to the development of an Australian identity.
