At Jindi Kindergarten and Extended Care, our vision is for all children to learn about, respect and acknowledge the true history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We will celebrate their diverse cultures and recognise the achievements of past and present Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the wider community. Our centre supports families from many cultures, many from overseas, and we pride ourselves on facilitating experiences for all families to learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ perspectives and histories. We teach families through their children and contribute to a new generation of Australians committed to reconciliation.
Jindi means 'to come together' in the local Woi Wurrung language, and that is what we wish to achieve. At Jindi we are working to provide a culturally safe space for families who access our service and the community hub our service is located in. We work in collaboration with our onsite partners to create more inclusive spaces and to incorporate the voices of Wurundjeri Elders. Our ultimate vision is for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Mernda to use Jindi as a community base and to make meaningful connections with members of our community.
