Manor Lakes Kindergarten

VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

At Manor Lakes Kindergarten, we will continue to develop positive relationships between the wider Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

We will continue:

•    Learning about the histories and cultures of the local Aboriginal and Torres Islander Community. As we live on the Wadawurrung Country, we will engage with local Aboriginal Elders and community members to help us respectfully connect with the Land and to appropriately teach the values, beliefs and traditions of the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community. •    Respectfully implementing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples perspectives through the curriculum requirements and goals in the Early Years Learning Framework by working together with the local Aboriginal and Torres Islander Community. •    We will aim for all educators to participate in professional learning and networking experiences to create opportunities with others in reflection and to strengthen knowledge of how to foster an equitable Australia- a place where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families, and all children and families, can live strong in culture. Such opportunities will provide new possibilities to actively acknowledge the rights of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their families, particularly the families whom we directly work with each day at our service. We will respectfully include Aboriginal and Torres Islander families; welcome opportunities for families to share their cultures and histories; and create relationships that are founded on an Acknowledgement of the historical inequalities and inequities in the relationship between colonial Australia and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and Acknowledge them as The First Peoples of Australia.
