VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

At Tarneit Kindergarten, we are committed to continue creating an inclusive and respectful learning environment that supports childrens understanding of reconciliation and recognises the histories, cultures and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.   

We continue to create spaces where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures are recognised, respected and valued. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives will be thoughtfully embedded within our curriculum to strengthen the knowledge and understanding of educators, children, families and the wider community about the First Peoples of Australia.   

We will continue to develop genuine and meaningful relationships with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and leaders. Our learning environments, materials and resources will reflect the rich diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and cultures.   

We are committed to continuing to support staff to build their knowledge and cultural awareness through ongoing professional learning. This will focus on developing a deeper understanding of the histories, cultures and experiences of First Nations Peoples and the importance of cultural respect and sensitivity.   

Respectful and inclusive language will be used when discussing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, cultures and histories. We will encourage children, educators, families and the broader community to explore, ask questions and learn in ways that demonstrate curiosity, respect, and understanding.   

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives will be thoughtfully incorporated into learning experiences to support ongoing learning and appreciation of cultures, histories and perspectives. We recognise that reconciliation is an ongoing journey that requires continuous reflection, learning and improvement in our teaching practices
