The educators and staff at Goodstart Aberfoyle Park appreciate that reconciliation is an ongoing and multi-dimensional process to which we are committed. Our vision of reconciliation is beyond a general celebration of multiculturalism and promoting equal human rights. We recognise that reconciliation in Australia is unachievable without highlighting and respecting the histories, cultures and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as a part of our journey towards reconciliation and our national story and identity. Reconciliation is about creating and maintaining genuine and meaningful two-way relationships between non-Indigenous Australians and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, rather than an ‘us’ and ‘them’ approach. Our educators at Goodstart Aberfoyle Park respect and are inclusive of each child’s cultural beliefs and identities. As a result, we appropriately incorporate values, attitudes and customs of all cultures into approaches to teaching and learning, including cultures and perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Through our Reconciliation Action Plan we hope to promote reconciliation between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians in the learning environment, around the centre, and with the wider community.
