Educators are committed to the process of reconciliation and supporting the children, families and educators to develop an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, histories, and contributions. Penfield’s Goodstart Early learning centres educators recognise the need for providing learning opportunities that are authentic, meaningful and respectful. Educators collaborate with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander agencies, Elders and First Nations families of the centre to further their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander practices. Maintaining these respectful connections will support our team to teach the children about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ perspectives and histories in a culturally sensitive way. Goodstart Penfield will work to prevent bias towards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and for each and every person to be supported to really think about why they feel the way they do, and to move towards developing understanding and respect for First Nations peoples and cultures. We realise how big this vision however we remain committed to supporting everyone who enters our centre to play a part in the reconciliation process and sharing our learning with them.
