VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

At Unley Early Learning Centre, reconciliation means coming together to give appropriate, and deserved, recognition to the true histories of Australia. It means being committed to acknowledging, teaching, unlearning and relearning, informing, and sharing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ contributions and perspectives. It means saying sorry for past events and being intentional about doing better than those before us. It is showing respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and understanding that First Nations perspectives, views, beliefs, and knowledge are unique and invaluable.

Reconciliation at Unley Early Learning Centre looks like Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives respectfully embedded through our curriculum, learning experiences, environment, and intentional teaching. It looks like a diverse, non-bias, harmonious approach to learning and play. We collectively believe that a reconciled Australia looks like a society of equality and equity where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People experience equality and equity in educational outcomes, and it is a place where there is no division. It is having an understanding and respect for the Land and looking after the environment for future generations.

We envision a future where the children we teach reflect these beliefs and commit to ensuring necessary steps are taken so children, families, and staff are culturally aware and take accountability for their learnings.
