Milestones Early Learning Centre, Keperra

Milestones, Keperra is very proud of its relationship and deep connections to the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. This collaborative relationship has been formed over many years and the educators are committed to strengthening its bond to community. Educators recognise our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members as vital components of our journey towards reconciliation. As such, their views and opinions are always sought and respected throughout the year.

Reconciliation is important to staff at Milestones, Keperra as it provides educators with opportunities to respectfully extend on their own knowledge and understanding of the Turrbal culture, histories and language while sharing these understandings with the children they teach. By embedding culturally respectful practices into the daily routines and ongoing programs across the rooms, educators are further promoting reconciliation. Ongoing, these embedded practices and experiences will be continuously reflected on and reviewed to ensure they are respectful and authentic. Wherever possible, these will be reflected on in partnership with members of the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

Embedding culturally respectful practices at Milestones, Keperra is evident through our daily Acknowledgement of Country, regular engagement with Dreaming Stories and use of natural materials. All educators at our centre are committed to providing engaging and authentic experiences which promote children's interest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and languages.

Milestones, Keperra is excited to continue to promote and work towards recononciliation. We will continue to work with our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community to develop a respectful and collaborative relationship to benefit all involved.
