Sparrow Early Learning Brighton continues to foster reconciliation by creating a community where individuals, both within our early learning service and the broader community, come together to celebrate and value all cultures. We wholeheartedly respect and value the rich heritages of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, learning from the wisdom of the community Elders. Together, we aim to pave the path towards reconciliation between non-Indigenous people and First Nations peoples within our local community. We acknowledge the profound impact of non-Indigenous settlement on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their cultures, and the contemporary challenges they face in today's society. Our hope is for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and families residing on this Traditional Land and Traditional Lands across Australia to find unity, equality and equity in society, and for all non-Indigenous peoples to learn the true histories of this country . We instill in children and families the values of respect and acceptanceand acknowledge First Nations peoples’ spiritual connections and care for the Land. As a service, we nurture a culture of acceptance and inclusivity that allows Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and people of all cultures to feel a sense of belonging. Every family within our community is valued, acknowledged, and respected. Our ongoing respectful engagement with the local community includes building strong connections with the Turrbal and Gubbi Gubbi peoples, the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which we play and learn. Through these meaningful reciprocal relationships, we progress on our journey toward reconciliation, continually valuing First Nations’ perspectives, knowledges, and the diverse peoples that make the community unique.
