Our vision for reconciliation at The Children's Centre at The Body Shop, located on Bunurong Ground, is about actively acknowledging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples as Australia’s First Nations peoples, as well as celebrating First Nations peoples’ contributions and continuing importance to society today. We recognise that, to move forward in our reconciliation journey, we must first reflect on our current attitudes and understandings and decide where to go from here.
We believe in being open and honest with children, by valuing them as capable and competent citizens. We are committed to finding authentic and meaningful ways to connect and engage with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members. We actively strive to nurture ongoing partnerships which are based on mutual respect, trust, understanding and that are of mutual benefit. We continue to engage the children in meaningful experiences and projects to promote and embed cultural responsiveness.
We facilitate opportunities for Elders and Traditional Owners to share their cultural and historical knowledge and perspectives with children and staff through promoting a learning environment that is culturally safe and supportive. We seek to support First Nations children and all children to have opportunities to celebrate their cultures with their peers. We are committed to making reconciliation an ongoing process; continually reflecting on and transforming our curriculum and practices to ensure that we are respectfully valuing, reflecting and actively engaging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ cultures and histories in the learning and life of our site.
