VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

At Goodstart Gateshead our vision for reconciliation is about acknowledging the past and ensuring the future is one of equality, equity and unity between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians. We acknowledge past and present injustices, move forward with trust in strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous people for the benefit of a brighter future for all. We believe that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children should have the equal and equitable opportunities and choices as non-Indigenous children..

Our centre’s vision is for reconciliation is to provide children with a range of respectful interactive learning experiences which will enhance their knowledge, appreciation and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing and being and explore diverse cultures and heritages. We strive to strengthen relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous people in our service and in the wider community. We will establish and maintain strong, reciprocal, and respectful relationships with the Awabakal people, whose history and culture will be celebrated and respectfully embedded throughout the centre’s programs and practice.

We strive to create an equal and equitable space for learning and ensure that culture is visible throughout the centre to create a culturally safe environment.

Our team is involved in an ongoing journey that will enhance their understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures and heritages. We will provide opportunities for families and children to be actively involved in our reconciliation journey and will share regular information regarding our centre's Reconciliation Action Plan.
