Kincumber Preschool Kindergarten recognises Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ cultures and histories, and their rich, diverse and dynamic nature. We acknowledge the importance of respectfully embedding First Nation peoples’ knowledge and understanding within our daily practices and pedagogical approach with children. We recognise our position to uphold a culturally inclusive environment where every child feels safe and secure. We believe in learning through culture, and value what diversity it creates. We maintain a culturally responsive place, where every child and family member feels a sense of belonging especially Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families. As educators, we have the ability to sustain an open conversation with our families about the importance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ histories and perspectives, encouraging all to value the contributions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people make to Australian culture and society. We value the opportunity to learn from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and we honour their resilience and strength. We recognise we need to proceed to work in an inviting and collaborative way to assist in fostering equality and equity among all members of our educational community.
